Mission & Art Practice
Gea Zwart is a Dutch visual artist who works under the names STUDIO GEA ZWART and RECYCLE YOUR DARLING.
She has been working as an independent artist and designer since 1992. She graduated from the Minerva Academy of Fine Arts in Groningen, where she specialized in painting.
In the years that followed, she continued to develop as an artist, with graphic design serving as an important side activity for many years. Since 2019, she focuses entirely on her fine art and commissions.
Her work has been exhibited both domestically and internationally and has been acquired by companies and private collectors. Her art has received various awards in the fields of art and entrepreneurship.
She experiments using a range of materials and creates complex wall sculptures, drawings, and modern paintings.
“RECYCLE YOUR DARLING” is the latest component of her artistic practice. In this work, painting and recycled art are closely intertwined.

Circular Transformation
I am fascinated by transformation, in life, in nature, and in materials.
I work with scrap materials from companies, such as Plexiglas and aluminum. I also use wool and old pieces from my own artworks. Some of the materials come from the architecture and design sectors. I combine them with painting, assembling them layer by layer, while playing with transparency, color, and light.
When light falls on it, shadows are cast and new dimensions emerge.
For me, recycling isn’t just about reusing existing materials. The materials themselves are a source of inspiration and, as works of art, take on a completely new and unexpected meaning.
Life, transformation, and play come together in my approach to my work.
Nature, the source
Water, light, clouds, growth, movement, and cycles, nature is constantly changing. I use these transformations as metaphors for emotions, behavior, and the way we experience life. They are also layered, stormy yet full of hope.
I spend a lot of time walking in nature, and I regularly paint and draw En Plein Air. For me, nature is a source of inspiration that gives me energy and sparks new images and ideas.
Into the Unknown
I work intuitively. I follow my associations throughout the creative process.
I treat creating art as an expedition. It’s no coincidence that the overarching theme of the “Recycle Art” series is “Into the Unknown.” Layers build up, and the image gradually emerges as the process unfolds. For me, creating is a discovery journey. The materials, the colors, the movement, and the process all help determine where the work ends up.
Material that was destined to be thrown away becomes a whole new world: powerful, poetic, and mysterious.

My work is unpredictable, sometimes raw, colorful, and abstract. It doesn’t always reveal its meaning right away. It is precisely over time that something new can become visible or tangible.

sources of inspiration
Adventure is the foundation of my art.
We experience change every day simply by living. What are our emotions in this situation? I am fascinated by our behavior. Why do we act the way we do?
Nature is constantly undergoing transformation. A storm, the last light of day, growth, or movement all evoke emotions. I also incorporate faces and human figures into my work.
People as inspiration. I live in the Randstad and come into contact with all kinds of people every day. That blend of dynamism and tranquility is also reflected in my artwork.

In this case: circular and artistic.
We must be careful with our earth. Hergebruik van materialen past bij dat bewustzijn. Residual materials are not thrown away, but transformed into brand-new works of art with character and meaning. To me, that’s the essence of RECYCLE YOUR DARLING.
